Number one is the closest to the front, (l/h side from the rear from memory) firing order is 1,4,3,2 (check) all plugs out and check the tdc on both the front pulley and a wooden skewer down the plug hole to check the piston position. with number one in the firing position, the next cylinder to fire will have the inlet and exhaust cam lobes on the 'rock', ie. changing from exhaust to intake. set the clearances on number one cylinder, repeat for each cylinder as the order changes. good luck.
