I need your opinion, fast. In early August, I took my family to Sequoia Nat'l Park. I was approx 15 min inside the park from the park entrance, my Q's idling became rough and as I was pulling into the parking space, motor stopped. Waited for 3 hrs for towing and towed to Pep Boys in Visalia. Pep Boys stated there was no power at injection. They suspected that computer somehow turned anti-theft system on. So, I towed to Visalia of Nissan. Here is their findings. "Found that van has not fuel or spark Checked ECM and it working ok checked cam sensors and crank sensor it was working normal allso checked compresson and found it was low in all cylinders Called Nissan Tech Line They told me to check timing chains Found that timing jumped cand car is out of timing and it going to need new engine due to low engine compression $6500.00 to replace engine...Customer declined." So, I towed my Q to local mechanic. There he found problems in ECM, Cam Pos sensors, and couple of coils. No problems w/ compression. He thus, ordered ECM (over 1 mo and the dealer has not received it yet), and he replaced x3 coils and x2 cam sensors. He also found used ECM from Oregon and put the ECM and took my Q to the local dealer for re-programing. At the dealer, they were able to start the motor, however, idling remains rough and will not go any more 800 rpm or 5 mph. Per dealer, my Q is not fully functional since last two digits of the ECM is different from the original ECM. My friend also suggested that dealers don't stock ECM's since it is very rare for the ECM to go wrong. That's why it is taking over a month to get it. So, he does not think ECM problems, but, something else is bad. Does any of you have any ideas what went wrong w/ my Q? Should I put the original ECM back and take Q to the good mechanic? Do you know a good mechanic I can trust in Monterey, CA?

Let me get this straight, you took your Nissan to the NISSAN dealer (who has extensive data and resources) and they said you needed an engine due to the timing had jumped and you declined due to the $6500.00 price. So you took it to the independent guy (local mechanic) that is guessing and throwing parts at it and most likely making it worse because you only needed an ECM that the dealer said was ok, 2 cam sensors and 3 coils (but hey its cheaper than an engine). So now you have a used ECM that doesn't belong in the vehicle that you most likely didn't need and are awaiting the correct one from Nissan. You now have or will have 3 working ECMs, 4 good cam sensors and nine good coils in a van that will still not run. Ok and now you think that the independent guy (local mechanic) doesn't know what he's doing and you want to know if anybody knows a good mechanic. Whatever gave you that impression?? I know now what the problem is.....it's you. You tried to save money but it didn't work. Hopefully you didn't do any further damage but who knows. Get your money back from the local mechanic and take your van to the dealer to get the engine you need before someone else takes you for a ride or damages your vehicle further.
