1 MB L2 cache, 1 GB RAM, Bus 100 MHz, 6 GB HD (OS 9.2.2), 40 GB HD (OS 10.4.11). Upgrade of the Sonnet Encore ZIF G4 1 GHz according to Sonnet's guidelines using the OS X Firmware uprade. Firmware upgrade was confirmed "successful". After swapping the CPU's and the jumpers according to the procedure outlined below, there is no startup-chime and black screen. Had the message "programming successful". Hard disks and fans are spinning. No further hard disk activity. Turned on the machine several times, no success. Anyone having experienced a similar situation? Any advice?

The start up chime is part of a self test function so the boot is not getting far, check the jumpers, make sure you work from the correct end, I made that mistake with a G3 and got that symptom, the jumpers give you the clock speed and if it is too fast or not a function of the bus speed it wants then no boot. The jumper block on the motherboard it half processor speed, four of the eight and the others are bus speed, the bus cannot be upped much without crashing the chips. check this link and compare your info http://lowendmac.com/macdan/02/0710ek.html
can you let me know your jumper positions? a pic of your mainboard would help. [email protected]can you let me know your jumper positions? a pic of your mainboard would help. [email protected]
