12.5 hp mtd starter turns slowlllllly
I have a 12.5 hp mtd rdining tractor. When I went to start it recently the starter turned very slowlllllly (dragging). I first hought it was the battery. I then proceeded to charge the battery. Same problem. I siad maybe the battery is bad. Brought a fresh new battery, made sure it was fully charged and tried agin----same problem. I then tested the solenoid by removing it for the mower, using my battery and jumper cables I placed the negative cabe to the mounting flange, postive to the terminal i would hear the solenoid click. I also tested for continuiity between the 2 posts on the solenoid and there was continuity. Additionaly, I brought a new starter (which i benched tested and worked fine)----still turns slowllllllly! At this point I'm not sure what the problem is. Any assistance would be grewatly appreciated.

Brush's inside the starter are bad the brush's made poor contact with the armature inside the startermotor and are not getting full contact causing the armture to get hot causing the starter not to spin at rated speed to start motor you have 2 things you can do (1) take the motor off the lawn mower unit and have it rebuilt or buy a new unit and still have the old one rebuilt so you have a spair have them test it in front of you take and place it in a dry plastic bag so you have it ready for the next time it fails
