1686 code came up on 99 jeep cherokee grand...what does this mean?
Jeep starts and runs for a few seconds then shuts off. ran test and code 1686 came up. is there a way I can bypass the anti theft relay to start it? Or how do I get them in sync again?

Both keys fail, car came with 2,
never keep less than 2 or get stranded......
can be many things, cause but key tops list , and is the most easy to fix. get a reprogrammed key from dealer.
if you had 2, you can make a 3rd. DIY (rules are in operators guide, if you care to read them)
The p1686 code means :
No SKIM BUS Message received.
possible causes:
1. Invalid SKIM key.
2.wiring harness intermittent defect.
3.PCM DEF INTERNAL PCI BUS OPEN.
4.PCM PCI BUS CIRCUIT OPEN.
The first thing I would do is check the wiring harness unplug and check for loose pins then reconnect. Hope this helps.
Were is the plug for the PCM located on my jeep
