18hp v-twin won't go to full RPM but runs slow and misfires
I got a used mower (sabre by John Deere) that ran good there at where I bought it, but when I went to mow there was no fuel to engine. Found the float stuck and got it going. A week later I went to mow again, and now the gas ran from the carb and it only runs slow, and acted like it was choked. I tried the float thing again but broke the post holding the float (bought a new carb and fuel solenoid) Now it acted the same way, but ran faster when I pulled one of the spark plug wires off, so I examinedthe plugs and one was dirty, one was wet only. I checked for spark with each plug pulled out of its hole, and there IS spark, but when assembled, it backfires and spits some fuel out into the air filter.
I wonder if the timing is electronic and is going bad?
Any ideas?

Yes had a B&S v-twin do the same thing. the one plug dirty and one plug wet is a red flag. remove both plugs and put a screwdriver in to touch top of piston. turn engine with your hand and see if screwdriver moves. i'm guessing one of them won't, and that means one of the connecting rods has exploded, the crank is ruined, and someone sold you a lemon.
