1984 jaguar xj6
I have a loud high pitched noise coming from the rear and it only happens when i press the gas but when it is rolling on the over drive gear (with no gas applied) its sounds and runs normal and when i washed it i sprayed water underneath the car in the rear section where the inboard brakes and differential are located and after doing that i drove off and the high pitch noise went away untill about 2 miles later it came back! and i was told that it might be my rear wheel bearings if not maybe the drive shaft carrier bearing. any words of advice?

Hello, I have seen many differentials go bad on this model but you saying that the noise went away after you sprayed it with water doesn't make sense. If you want to check the wheel bearings, jack up the car and check the movement of your wheels by grabbing the top of the tire with one hand and the bottom of the tire with other and see if there is too much movement. If there is too much movement, then you need to replace the wheel bearings. (big job)
You also need to check the brake calipers to see if they are sticking. You can take a large screw driver and pry back the pads. They should move back with a little effort. If not, maybe the calipers are sticking.
I hope this helps.

Have not driven my 84 XJ6 in a while However I have gone out to garage to start it up and let it idle for 5 mins 4 times since mid february.....tonight I was going to take it to the gas station check tire pressure and put gas and check all fluids .....would not turn over the lights were very dim and the door buzzer was very weak does this mean I need the battery to be charged?
