1991 camaro overheating
My 1991 camaro rs is overheating constantly. the cooling fan is not coming on; a/c blows warm air only & heater never blows warm air; mechanic(so he calls himelf-um?!) had radiator flushed & replaced hoses/radiator cap; tachometer no longer works; punched "insides" of catalytic convertor out but didn't replace; changed spark plugs & wires & replaced 1 freeze plug all for $1100.00! Three days later the radiator will not hold water & temperature gauge reads 250+ . the only visible water/coolant leak is the STREAM of water that runs continously underneath the car between transmission & motor until all water in radiator & overflow tank are empty. could this be caused from freeze plugs that need replacing?

There are two freeze out plugs at the rear of the block (V8) and many v6 engines. If coolant is coming from where you say, likely they have failed. Unfortunately, the only way to reach them is to remove engine or transmission, It's rare that they fail because they are "protected " by the bellhousing, but can still rot from the inside out. There is no sealer known to man that will fix this. It's a shame that you need to do all that work for a pair of $2.00 plugs, but that's what needs to happen.
Possibly a bad hose to the heater core or the heater core could be plugged,especially since you describe getting no warm air from the heater and coolant flowing between motor and transmission,the cooling fan could be a bad thermo switch or relay,as far as the freeze plugs most likely not,the coolant would flow out of a bad freeze plug as soon as you started filling it,you should go back to your "mechanic" and demand a refund,I'd say demand a repair but I don't think this guy can fix is own hair,it sounds like he was hoping and groping for a solution,at the very least file a consumer complaint with your states attorney general and cosider a small claims suit.
