Good guess if it's not vacuum, it may be the intake manifold gasket allowing too much air into system. Easy teats to check is to spray some engine cleaner, or brake cleaner [ WD40 works too ] directly where the intake manifold bolts on. Making sure you are spraying the gasket. If gasket is bad, you will hear the idle go down or up. Any change at all tells the tale. . Be sure not to spray the exhaust manifold, just the intake manifold. This is the best test to perform Saves time and money. Let me know how you make out. PS Also spray vacuum hoses with the cleaner. Listen to motor at the same time let me know how you do
