1995 Toyota Corolla dx. 1.8 motor. Cranks, sometimes stalls but will crank and idle good in park. Once the car goes in park and press gas, it stalls and or even dies. I can drive it if I press the gas very lighty, otherwise I can't give it much gas or it will die. I took it to good year and the guy said I needed a new motor for $3000, but amazing how he would never look me in the eyes when he told me what was wrong. Took it to Firestone and they had no clue. I was going to take to the Toyota dealer today. About to give up

First check or let someone check the vacuum advance pipe to the distributor of the engine. Sometimes the pipe get dislodged and will cause the symptoms described. Look for a very thin pipe that leads from the intake manifold (the carburetor is mounted on it) to the side of the distributor ( the one with the five thick wires of which four are connected to the spark plugs). Check if it is not hanging loose or leaking air. Secondly the main fuel jet in the carburetor might be blocked. Easy to fix but take it to a mechanic and ask him/her to check the jet. It will take a matter of minutes so you should not be asked to leave the car at the dealer. You can also try to google it as it is not difficult to do.
First Thing I would do would be to Put a FUEL FILTER into the car, Second Thing would be to Put a AIR FILTER into the Car.
The Car need to be able to BREATHE, It will also fall Flat on its face if the Fuel Filter is Clogged. A RAG in the Air Intake would cause it to do this... Take the Air Filter off and try and see what happens... Leave the Housing Off (Not Sealed) and does it change the way it runs?
What happens to the way it runs when you change the Fuel Filter?
Next I would put a FUEL PRESSURE GAUGE on it if the first 2 things do not fix the issue...
If you do not have 40 PSI of Pressure, you are starving the car of Fuel.
Electrical Fuel Injection?
Compression Test the Car to see if the engine is bad. Looking at it is not a Way... Testing it will give you the Information you need.
ASK more questions AFTER you change the Fuel Filter and Air Filter..... Todd
