It sounds like you broke the 2-4 band. But you should be missing 4th also. Is it possible you are thinking its going into 4th but you are feeling the converter locking up?
I know this sounds crazy, But My 1999 Yukon lost rpm gauge, speedometer gauge and did not shift into 2nd and 4th. Everybody said it was a seed sensor. I took it to Precision Transmision. They did some test,( that cost me $94.50) and came up with the ignition switch was bad. I drove it home to change myself. And everything was working again. I called to find ignition switch in case it happens again. Its $100 or so at autozone. But they say it would have to be programmed cause of the security system. I am driving it now everyday and no problems as of yet. It has 246540 miles on it and running strong as ever.
