1998 isuzu rodeo has intermittent hard shift from 2nd to 3rd gear and extreme hard downshift from 3rd to 2nd gear. When this happens it may hard shift only a couple of times OR it may do the same thing for a day or two OR most recently it may continue for several days. Sometimes the hard shift occurs immediately after the car is started but sometimes it may be shifting smoothly with the engine & transmission "warmed up" and all of a sudden the "hard shift" begins. The downshift is a loud grinding along with a sharp ****
Hi. If your driving an automatic transmission please try to change the transmission fluid and filter, a smooth run will be noticeable after performing this. If you're driving on a manual transmission then there may be a problem on the clutch lining, try to replace the clutch lining, pressure plate and release bearing. Hope this helps
no actually there wont be. It all depends on how warn the parts are, and how much strain it takes before it seizes up causing the hard shift. For example if your driving up a hill, It will hard shift. If you car has excess weight it will hard shift constantly. It all depends on the level of wear and the amount of strain its on. After its worn a bit more you will get it constantly.

It sounds as if there is a problem with the transmission or the clutch.
the transmission gears may be worn down and u may need to rebuild it using a transmission full kit (FROM YOUR CAR DEALER)
But I'm leaning towards the clutch. Change plate, I'm thinking its worn down and sometimes binding, hence giving you the hard gear shitf.
