1999 eclispse Hey, I have a 1999 eclipse gs convertable. It has 184,000 miles on it. It works fine. I keep it maintained very well. I'm concerned when the transmission needs to be replaced. I would rather replace before something happens. As I said, it has been working fine. What should I do?
Completely agree with j_del, even if it started to slip changing the fluid/filter with a qt. of stopslip will usually bring them back to life, if it ever does start to slip make sure you take care of it right away otherwise you will destroy the bands and then you will be shoping for a tranny, if you ever need any parts for your car my email is [email protected] and i can get them for you used and much discounted, take care and good luck erik ez automotive/4g63power
There's no need to assume that it has to be replaced. Does it shift well? Does it slip? If not, no worries. Many transmissions will outlast other parts of the car as long as they're not abused. That being said, a transmission fluid flush and refill and a change of the transmission filter is not a bad idea, but don't automatically expect that it's going to die - replacing it could well be a waste of money.
