1999 Mercury Cougar power steering leak
I've got a 99 Mercury Cougar with a power steering leak where the high pressure hose comes out the side of the pump. It only leaks when the car is running or shortly after it's been turned off. The only thing we can think is that there's a crack in the flared piece under the nut that attaches the high pressure hosing to the pump. No one sells this part and we've tried to seal it with gaskets and JB Weld but nothing is working. I've got to get this fixed because it keeps leaking into the alternator and causing it to go out. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions I would greatly appreciate them!! Anyone that needs help on these cars, let me know...mine has gone thru almost an entire overhaul sitting in our garage. WOULD SUGGEST FINDING A HYDROLICS COMPANY IN YOUR AREA-IF ONE IS NOT LISTED IN YELLOW PAGES, FIND A BIG TRUCK DEALER-KW, FREIGHTLINER, ETC, THEY WILL BE ABLE TO TELL YOU WHO MAKES THER HYDRO LINES, FIND THIS PERSON - REMOVE YOUR HOSE AND TAKE IT TO THEM AND HAVE THEM MAKE THE HOSE UP- THEY CAN CRIMP THE NEW END
HOWEVER THAT SAID, IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE AIR IN THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM
TO GET RID OF THAT, JACK THE FRONT OF VEHICLE UP OFF THE GROUND
TAKE CAP OFF THE POWER STEERING RESERVOIR
DO NOT START VECHILE
BUT TURN STEERING WHEEL FROM STOP TO TO STOP IN ORDER TO FORCE AIR OUT
WILL SEE BUBBLES IN RESERVOIR
MAY HAVE TO DO THIS SEVERAL HUNDRED TIMES TO GET IT ALL OUT
Im having the same exact problem coming from the same place. Im not sure what this part is called so I havnt been able to try to order it. (ajforrest) Were you able to get this fixeed & if so How??? Any help wld be greatly appriciated
I just ordered one from my local Ford dealer. $38
I had the same issue. It is a little two inch tube that attaches to the pump that goes bad. You have to go to the dealer to by replacement. Once I did that the leak went away.
