1999 Saturn SL2, Standard Shifter came loose
I have a 1999 Saturn SL2, Standard, the other night I was leaving a parking lot and went to put the car in gear and all of the sudden it went loose, the shifter is flopping up and down like a fish, will not so sideways at all. My car is in reverse only :) I paid 100 to get it towed to my home and have been without my car for a few days now. When I bought the car there was a hanger in place of a clamp (so I was told), I got a clamp at the salvage yard and had it replaced, I am told it has come off again. I am not familiar with what I am to look for or even in what area to look. I called around and the charges are high not to mention I have to have the car towed to them as well. I grew up around a mechanic and can do some things, basic things, and I would really like to attempt this myself and save a lot of money! (if possible)
Thank you in advance!

Well 99 was a loose year aye
Its a simple diy fix but you have to set gear on tranny in nuetral first then get the proper linkage coupler for your vehicle takes bout 10 minutes to put on new coupler and if the linkage has snapped order new linkage bar and put coupler back on try not to by junkyard for these types of parts as you will get what you pay for for simple fix baleen wire wrapped threw the connector holes will get job done for now
