The problem could be a couple things --- one thing that could be happening is the inner seals in the disposal unit are bad and water is leaking down through the unit ( but normally when this happens the motor shorts out and the disposal does not work anymore ). now the one thing that I would look at is the drain hose itself and see if the clamps and/or the fittings are not tight or are broken and its leaking out there. it could also be leaking at the top seal where it attaches to the sink ( maybe the clamp is loose and just needs to be turned clockwise to tighten it back up to the sink ? ). there is also a plastic fitting between the disposal unit and the drain hose and I have seen this crack due to over tightening or vibration from the unit working over time. now while you are under there getting all wet and icky -- this is a good time to check all the pipes for clogs and tightness. also check the line coming from the dishwasher ( if you have one ) and make sure that that line in not cracked, broken or loose. I hope this helps,,, if you have any other questions about this problem - please feel free to ask,, I will do my best to walk you through it.
Check for leaks on gasket on side of disposal where drain line hooks up. If it is leaking there you can tighten retaining bolt that holds it in. If it still leaks you can get a replacement gasket at most hardware stores. Check for leaks around mounting bracket at top and tighten if needed. Check all slip joint connection washers and nuts. Replace if gasket are rubber and inspect and clean if they are plastic. You can wrap teflon tape over gaskets to help them seal. Make sure p-trap and drain lines are all clear and draing ok. Check hook up for dishwaser drain and tighten clamp if needed.I hope this helps you. Thanks.
