2 hp garage door opener cables wound around shaft
Cables that lift door are wrapped around the top shaft tight. How do I loosen them and how do I repair it so it doesn't happen again. Door wont open or close.

Denise, This could be a dangerous job for some one with no knowledge, doors are heavy,cable is under a lot of load from torsion springs. You may have to call a garage door tech, this is not a major fix if you have the knowledge and tools, the Tech. can also diagnose what caused/allowed cable to do this and correct the fault, so it will not happen again. For your safety call a door Tech. or 3 and get an estimate.
