i have viewed and read at least 15 differant sets of instructions, the link you sent was one of them. maybe I wasn;t clear in my question. I will start over.....my tub spout diverter came off about 1 wk ago just became loose and eventually the water pressure was too much for it. so i went and bought a univeral tub spout diverter (the kind with multiple type of fittings to fit any kind of situation). this 1st one didnt work as i was not able to get the oring to fit over/around the pipe while the oring was in side the piece of plastic which was inside the spout. long story short numerous attempts caused a nick in the oring so that by the time i got the spout in place it leaked, i assumed it was due to the oring and it probably was. so i went and bought a 2nd tub spout diverter this time i got the kind specifically for my set up.. that being a 1/2 inch copper pipe pretruding from the wall about 1 and 3/4 - 2 inches. so i wrapped the pipe with the teflon tape several times and followed all instructions, yet it still leaks out the back of the spout. I was hoping for suggestion on troubleshooting this problem. I understand how to install it except possibly i am missiing a step?? all the various instructions I have read are very generic, with no diagrams or no diagrams that match mine exactly. like wise the directions that came with the tub spout diverter that i bought, it seems simple enough yet it leaks??? I would say it is definitely not the pipe leaking but rather it is something to do with the spout or maybe I am not clamping the set screw tight enough?? Thank youi have viewed and read at least 15 differant sets of instructions, the link you sent was one of them. maybe I wasn;t clear in my question. Due to delay in a reasonable response and my really wanting to take a shower, I again attempted to remedy my situation and determined that the problem had to be the set screw, apparently the set screw would bind (?) after a few turns causing me to think it was seated, as i didnt want to damaged anything by turning it too hard, however once it got past the place it was binding (?) it was several more rotations before it actually clamped the thing in place. Thanks anyways.Due to delay in a reasonable response and my really wanting to take a shower, I again attempted to remedy my situation and determined that the problem had to be the set screw, apparently the set screw would bind (?) after a few turns causing me to think it was seated, as i didnt want to damaged anything by turning it too hard, however once it got past the place it was binding (?) it was several more rotations before it actually clamped the thing in place.
