2 minutes and then shut down for 2 plus minutes. They stay off until the thermastat calls for more heat pump or airconditioning. They do a good job but I question that they should cycle so often! Bill

No the cycle of compressor on/off should not be so often. This is indication of fault in the unit. The compressor goes on and off, but it cool enough. It could be bad air flow, a dirty filter, dirty condenser, a leaking duct or the AC voltage. This makes compressor overheats and it shuts off.Another problem the compressor goes on and off, but it won't cool enough. This problem may need to be fixed by a qualified mechanic because it could be the condenser. Keep in mind that poor air flow, short cycling, a dirty filter or keeping the thermostat at its lowest temperature with the fan on can involve evaporator freeze-up.So in your case the unit needs proper servicing including internal parts cleaning.this will help.If the unit is giving proper cooling.Thanks. keep updated for any more query.you can rate this solution and show your appreciation.
I have not been able to get an appointment yet, however an employee of an a/c company said coils
and condenser are a-ok, The inside of the unit is clean as new and no indication of any air leaks.
