2000 Buell Cyclone M2. All electronics work exept my signals. What is the part number of the correct replacement flasher for my bike and if this doesn't fix the problem, what else can I try? 2nd issue. My bike has intermittent missfires. It's not bad, but every now and then it misses and backfires. The battery cables look good, new plugs, could possibly use new plug wires but while im on the bike and wiggle the plug wires It doesn't make the issue worse. Can you please point me in the right direction? thanks, Nick
If your bikw is backfiring it means that the timing is off. When an engine backfires it means that the exhaust valves are opening too soon. when that happens they are partially or all the way open when the air/ fuel mix is ignited in the cylinder. Check the wiring leaving the flasher relay to make sure that there are no breaks. Sometimes there is also a seperate fuse that runs inline with the relay to protect it so make sure that if there is a seperate fuse that it is ok. The relay part number that I came accross is ZZ38170. When i searched for your vehicle it said that it was a 4 prong flasher and this came up many times.
A good repair manual will show you how to time it properly in both the ignition and mechanical timing.A good repair manual will show you how to time it properly in both the ignition and mechanical timing.
If it is anything like timing a car to wont need any specific tools. Just some wrenches to get to top dead center. Im not sure but you may be able to use a timing light on a bike.If it is anything like timing a car to wont need any specific tools. Just some wrenches to get to top dead center. Hi, concerning the missing and backfiring, engine timing is off or fuel system is running too rich. Or a bad connection in the ignition system. Back firing is a term used to describe two types of miss firing in the cylinder. A pop back is when the engine miss fires through the intake. Most often the back fire happens throught the exhaust. The intake happens if the fuel mixture is too lean and the exhaust happens if the mixture is too rich. Thats if it is a fuel problem. If its a engine timing problem, its either advanced or retarded. Air leaks in the fuel system can cause this too, like carburator gaskets which lean out the mixture.
It sounds like you have a ground wire problem. The turn signals are controlled by a turn signal module. When it senses not enough current is being sent to the signals then it make them flash. Check your wiring. Follow the ground wire and see hows its attached.
