2001 grand prix gt freaking out!
Ok, so I was driving around the other day, I had been doing a lot of driving that day, but anyway. I stopped at a stop sign and prepared to make a right turn..my 2001 grand prix gt with under 50k miles stalled and made a super loud grinding noise. I put the car into park and then drive, and continued to make the turn, and parked on the side of the road. After I had put the car into park it acted fine, but it's still got me really freaked out. I am about 3k over when I was supposed to get an oil change (have appointment for friday), not sure if this has anything to do with it??

When you put the trans in park, then back into drive, Is the turning directly corresponding with the noise? Putting it in park should have nothing to dowith the turn. What happens if you don't put it in park. Is the trans still in drive if you followed through with the turn? Have your motor mounts checked. a bad motor mount will allow unintentional partial gear shifting and placing in park reset everything. You may be hearing the parking Pawl in the trans. good luck.
Hello and yes this is a major noise. I would check your oil now right before you ever start the oil again. This noise may have been your engine locking up from really low oil levels and excessive heat from a lot of driving. If this is fine contact me again and we will address more problems if their is more. Thank You.
