2005 Smart fortwo goes into neutral when in 4th gear. Can be steady state at 60 to 70k or once at full throttle when passing. At intermittent times, can't predict when. Dash still says 4th. Have to shut off motor, restart, put brake on, then select gear

U have a problem with the electrical control solenoid that engages the OD or the trans is losing fluid pressure internally, u will need the dealer to run some electronic tests on the transmission control computer, there will be a fault code in its memory most likely, there is no other way to approch this problem.
