If you believe it is related to that security update your best bet is to try and roll back to an earlier time - before you applied that update. To do that you will want to go back to a previous restore point on your computer, hopefully they are enabled. They are enabled by default on almost all computers though..
To find out if you can do this I will need to know, what version of Windows are you running? Windows XP, Vista, 7...?
Please let me know and I can walk you through removing that security update or just restoring to a previous date so we can get it working again.
Just reply to my answer here and I will be right back with you...
You should be able to just right click on McAffee and re-enable real time scanning. Is it the free edition of McAfee you are running, or one you installed from a CD? I assume you have rebooted against since restoring, it could just need a reboot / restart to get the issue to go away.

This is caused by a recent Windows Microsoft security update KB2387149, which can be removed through the Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs. Scroll down to Windows XP - Software Updates and look for Security Update for Windows XP KB2387149. Highlight it and then click Remove. After the removal your computer will reboot and the problem will be gone with Master Cook. It's not necessary to go back to an earlier restore point, which could affect other programs. This is caused by a recent Windows Microsoft security update KB2387149, which can be removed through the Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs.
