24 '09 towed the car in and was told that the clutch was slipping a new clutch was installed. Low and behold 10 months after, I took the car in for a oil change and a tune up I am being told that the clutch needs to be replaced. I paid 1500 in 09 and again almost 1000. to replace excluding parts, this car is a pocket drainer. I would like some one to tell me what is the problem with this car
Very sad to hear this that you are facing such a problem in your car. replace the whole transmission in your car or get it replaced by the company.the transmission assembly is got faulty or the fluid is not holding. The car's transmission has gears that shift to help the car move faster. If the transmission starts to slip or the car won't move, the transmission needs to be replaced. An automatic transmission shifts by itself and amanual transmisson uses a gear shift. An automatic transmission and a manual transmission have to be taken out differently. Here are some basic steps for removing a transmission. the procedure is as follows:-- Manual Transmission
Use a floor jack to raise the car off the floor and put jack stands under the front and back of the car. Make sure the car is secure and won't fall on you.
Take all the electrical connectors loose from the transmission. Put a mark on the drive shaft so it can be put back in the same position. Remove the rear U joint from the output shaft. Put a rag in the extension housing to keep fluid from leaking out.
Take the speedometer cable and shift linkages loose from the transmission. Put a jack under the transmission and with a wrench, remove the rear engine support nut, the cross member and the rear support insulator. Put a jack under the engine to support it and use the transmission jack to pull the transmission toward the rear of the car.
Take the old transmission off the transmission jack and put the new one on. Push the new transmission under the car, raising the jack as you go. Replace the rear support insulator, the cross member and the engine rear support nuts.
Reconnect the shift linkages to the transmission and the speedometer cable. Replace the drive shaft back to the mark and replace the U joint. Reconnect the electrical connectors to the transmission. Use the floor jack to support the car while you remove the jack stands, then lower the car to the floor and remove the jack.
This will help. Thanks please keep updated.please do rate the solution positively .thank you for using fixya
I have to ask,did they replace the whole clutch?the clutch, pressure plate, and throw out bearing?Did they have the flywheel resurfaced? For the money,I would hope so,but did they?If you are not sure, find out,it needs to be replaced as a assembely, not just the clutch,or the pressure plate, and if the flywheel was not replaced, then this would be the problem, the pressure plate,if not resurfaced, could also cause the early failure of the clutch. If everything was replaced as an assembely, and the flywheel was resurfaced, then the flywheel may have to be replaced, there may be to much cut off the flywheel.I am also asking, does any one hot rod the vehicle? If so,this would also cause the early failure of the clutch, not saying you are doing this, just asking, but I would find out about what exactly was replaced both times, and find out about the flywheel too.
