28+ year old- Speed Queen Heavy Duty top loader
I works fine on small & medium loads. When you set it to large or extra large loads it works fine through the wash cycle. But when it starts to fill for the rinse cycle it usually but not always lets the water keep running and draining out the exhaust hose. I have to then turn it to spin, let it go through the spin cycle, then turn it back to the rinse cycle and hope the valve shut so the "Lifetime Stainless Steel" drum fills up.

It sound like you drain hose is siphoning off the rinse water, It needs a standpipe make sure the drain hose is at about the height of the top of the washer, Make sure the drain hose isnt stuck in the drain it also needs an air cap. the drain hose should not lay on the floor to run to the drain
