4 Horsepower. I used it to drain a pool and it did just that, but when I checked on it the next morning it was barely running and would not pump water. If feel like it has burned out, but I thought that it would shut off so it would not burn out

Most pool water from the season before usually contain a lot of sediment, leaves and things like that. These pumps were not designed for continuous use, like draining a pool. Either it has a bunch of junk in it, or the motor just gave up.
