4 inch seam allowance
When using the Elna 1/4 inch foot to piece, the seam allowance varies from slightly over 1/4 inch at beginning of the seam to about 1/8 inch at end of seam (i.e., once the fabric no longer in front of the foot, but is completely under the foot). Is this an issue with the feed dogs causing the fabric to shift slightly? Should I be using a plastic stiletto to ensure that the fabric continues to feed evenly?

Using a straight stitch needle plate helps a lot. The end of the fabric doesn't get drawn down into the zig zag needle hole. The needle plate will cost around $50 but for me it is worth it for accurate piecing.
