4" think and 1' by 2'? The rear of the box is the part that is damaged and has completely been destroyed. My question is, is there a way to make the wall myself without forking out tons of dough. I was thinking Refractory Cement into a mold, but I think this stuff is mainly mortor and will be brittle. Any suggestions or resources? Thanks
Buy some fire bricks and line it in front of the damaged area ,now you can repair the damaged area by mixing casting plaster with cement (dry) equal parts then about 0ne fifth of sharp sand to the mix and then add the water and mix quick because it will set rather rapid.Another way i have used before now is cement and clay ,rather old fashioned but it does work depending on the clay type ,But a row of fire bricks at the back is the best advice i can think of ,also they will hold the heat for a longer period .
Hi. The first concerns here are carbon monoxide poisoning and fire. If you are sure that these are not issues of concern you can consider having the rear of the box repaired with a piece of plate steel cut to size and permanently fastened in place. You could also get a piece of cement board at home depot and install it using a mix of 6 parts masonary sand, one part mortar and one part portland cement.
