49cc taotao can't start with electric, only kick start. electric dies when brakes applied
Have to use kick start. Battery shows full charge with key off but charges with key on. When I turn the ignition on, the lights slowly come on, but when I pull the break everything dies over and over.

Sounds like your battery is dead. Sometimes they seem ok, or read good on gauge...but just a little load kills it. May also be internal short or connection problem inside battery. Either way, I'd start there.
Thanks. That is what it seems like, but just weird since I it shows 12.7 with the key off and drops to 5 with it on. Couldn't find any shorts, also it will only charge with the key on, don't get that either.
Could very well be a problem with connection at battery or battery leads/plug. Check for looseness or corrosion?
