8800 GT quit working last week
Purchased this vid card from Dell back on 5/1/08. Great improvement from the 6800 that came with the computer, to say the least!
Anyway, I am involved with online sim racing. I don't do the first person shooter stuff, just racing sims. Last Thursday I installed the new driver nVidia has out for 8800 (and up) series cards. I think it's 180.78, or something close to that.
After the new driver was installed everything was fine, raced online for about 2-3 hours with no problems. I run the nTune software to see what temps I'm running with the card, and usually check the temps after every "session".
When I checked the temp, that field was "grayed out" and showed no temp. Likewise, my manual/automatic fan control was "grayed out" as well. I thought this was odd, but didn't think much of it.
The next day I turned on my computer & tried to load my racing sim "Arca Sim Racing". I realized right away I was having graphics issues & could not race. As a matter of fact, I got numerous BSOD listing the nvs_d4 (or something close to that) driver as having an error.
I then put the 6800 back in my computer & works fine.
My question: Is my vid card fried, or is the new driver to blame??
Can I return this card for an exchange?

Yes, you are having a driver issue. Your options are:
1) Ask Dell to exchange it for another type (non Nvidia, preferably). Considering it still works with the old driver, they may not be very sympathetic, but it can't hurt to ask.
2) Continue using the card with the old driver, and hope that Nvidia fixes the bug in their next revision. By the way, you need to email them the details of your problem - that's how things get fixed.
Personally, I'd just continue using the card - you've had it over 6 months, and otherwise like the card, so I'd be inclined to stick with something you know works.

Sound like it is more of a driver/software issue. The current version of Nvidia driver for your card is 180.48. Not sure where you got your numbers. If you are using a Beta version of the driver, I wouldn't recommend that. Have you updated your Nvida System tools to the latest version since updating the video driver? You can find that here:

New Driver is this issue I had exact same issue I have a 8800M GTS. I Updated to 180.70 It gave me a Blue Screen of Death I rolled back driver and everything is fine.
