'91 eagle talon tsi awd...gears grind
I have a 91 talon tsi, manual TM, 128K miles... i noticed a couple of days ago my gears are grinding very badly, especially in reverse. it is very hard to shift gears. i have to use a lot of force to put it in any gear but reverse is by far the worst. it grinds horribly loud and it is hit or miss if i can actually get it in reverse smoothly. i havent checked the tranny fluid yet because it is -5 degrees outside (cleveland, oh) but do you think a lack of tranny fluid would make it grind that badly?

It sounds like a clutch related problem. I don't believe it's the actual clutch though . I think you probably have a hydraulics problem. If you r clutch master cylinder is low on fluid look up under the dash at the clutch master cylinder pushrod. Look at where it attaches to the back of the clutch master cylinder it is pushed in and out by the clutch pedal. If there is fluid dripping from the Master you will need to replace the unit. If not look at the clutch slave cylinder which attaches to the bell housing. This unit has the same internal piston set up as the master. It actuates the clutch fork. Look for fluid in the rubber boot the pushrod comes out of. If leaking replace it. I usually recommend replacing both units even if only one is leaking. Unless you know that the non leaker has been replaced recently. When you have any leaks fixed bleed the system of air bubbles. The reason you don't get full release which I believe is your problem is that air is compressible while brake fluid is not. So air in the system will not give you full throw of the cltch so the input is still partially attached to a spinning flywheel. This is why it grinds.
Now that I see you already replaced the clutch. I will bet my many years as a transmission tech that I am right on the money!
