98 Ford Taurus was driving made a weird sound then I seen smoke then the steering wheel went stiff battery light came on and it started to over heat what could it be?
I surely hope it is a broken serpentine belt under the hood. Raise the hood and see. Worst case scenario is the engine failed, and would need replacement. God bless your efforts.

Sounds like a serious engine problem, most likely you ran out of oil or coolant, and your engine seized. Hard steering and battery light likely mean the engine stopped. Smoke is a bad sign.
