About 4 years ago I had a LAARS MAX boiler installed with a Beckett burner and a Superstor water heater. All works well - except minor problem with burner needing to be reset occasionally. BUT when I called to have unit cleaned in Sept 2009, the tech wouldn't touch it. He showed me a letter from his firm's lawyer. This boiled is apparently not CSA approved (Canadian standards - ie safety). I called the company that installed it and they cleaned it (for a hefty price). What's the story? Where does this leave me with my insurance company? Repair and maintenance? Cleaning?

First off they are not suppose to be installing a boiler that is not CSA approved. Your best bet is to contact Laars find out the real truth. I do know Laars was bought out by another company a few years ago, but the Installation company needs to stand by their product and be held accountable.
If unit is not request a new boiler or threaten talking to better business bureau Customers have rights. It also can be a liability to them.
