About a year ago out of the blue, my laptop screen started turning off but the computer was still running. It has Windows Vista and Ubuntu. The problem was that the screen would start up normally and then about 5 minutes in, the screen would go black, but the system would still run. When I would run Ubuntu, the screen would never go black. This was about 9 months ago, and as soon as the problem started it got worse. Using windows, the screen would work in start up, I could log in, but as soon as the screen powered down to load my profile it would not power back up. With Ubuntu, it would power back up after loggin in, but then it would go black again. I put this laptop away for the last six months and gave up cause the screen just stopped working half the time. Now I started it up and it did the same thing. What is the problem and should I even spend money to fix it?
It sounds like a mother board or graphic card problem get a proper diagnosis from a computer repair shop but technology is improving every day and laptops are getting lighter and faster so after getting the diagnosis and quote a replacement may be the option to consider
