AC not blowing cold air
I have two Amana Prestige II units outside my house. The downstairs unit (larger) is working fine and cooling properly but upstairs, the air blows but it is not cold and the outside unit is not turning on. I have reset the breakers and the thermostat and the filter is not dirty, anything else I can do on my own? I'm currently unemployed and don't need a large AC bill so any help is appreciated.

If the outside unit is not turning on, this is why you are not cooling. Remove the electric cover, USE CAUTION, and determine if the contactor is engaging. Use an insulated screwdriver to manually push the contactor in. If you CAN push it in AND BOTH the fan AND compressor come on then you will have to determine why you are not getting 24 volts to the contactor coil. If you press it in and nothing happens then you likely have no HIGH voltage going go the machine. If it is already engaged you possibly have a bad capacitor. Take a long screwdriver and carefully give the fan a kick start to see if it starts running. Let me know!!

Remove the outside fuse from the unit that is not cooling... remove all the sheet metal from around the outside unit.. see if there is a lot of grass/weeds/ bird nests, or other material in the coils.. if there is... use a high pressure hose to clean the coils completely!!!!! (I had this done to mine...worked much better!!)..if this doesn't help,, I am afraid it might be time for some freon... and yes..its $$$$...
