Most likely has a cooling fan not working, check for a bad relay for the cooling fan ,and the high side pressure switch,it is in a high side line,it tells the cooling fans to come on.
I too have a 2005 equinox with same problem. Took in to a trusted mechanic and they measured voltage of compressor and when in idle its below manufacture specs.
Chevy refuses to do anything and claims its made that way to prolong compressor life.
I also have had starting issues where it randomly refuses to start. Had it checked out at Chevy delaer, they claim they dont know and cant figure out what is wrong. Take it to trusted mechanic and turns out its a faulty PCM. Chevy corporate refuses to do anything even though this is a wide spread problem.
Bottom line, no wonder people dont want to buy American junk. Before this I had a 2003 Infiniti and put over 100K miles, never gave me any issues. This Chevy only has 58K and is trouble.

I have been having the same problem - both with the starter and the a/c cooling. Texas summers are a beast. A buddy of mine said that the chevys made around that time put the starter too close to hot stuff - so basically it gets too hot and that's why it won't start after you've been driving for a while. That's basically what the dealership told us too. Literally said "well I don't know what you want me to do about it". Really? The A/C does seem to cool when I'm trucking down the highway but not when I'm stuck in traffic. After this and my Cavalsteer, I will never buy chevy again.I have been having the same problem - both with the starter and the a/c cooling. Texas summers are a beast.
