AC power to exit sign is working but sign failed test for Ni-CD backup. I replaced the battery but whenever i even conenct the new one the sign light goes out. sdugegstions?

Two things...
either you are getting the poles reversed on the battery or the power pack that charges the battery is bad.
Make sure that the + wire is going to the + on the battery and the - is lining up also.
If the tansformer has gone bad then you will be cheaper to replace the whole sign.
