Your problem is the thermostat if you read the instructions it will tell how to do it , some thermostat have some switches you probably have the settings for gas applications you need to set for electric or heat pump depending of type of brand some have the switches in the sub base of the tstat others you need to go to advance mode on the tstat screen normally by holding 2 bottoms at the same time, just follow the steps on the screen you can set your reversing valve ,gas, electric or heat pump, ect. if you have more questions just let me know
