After a short city drive, temperature indication is rising beyond 80 degC on the console (4 out of 5 highlighted, no flashing). The air cooler ventilater switches on, the water level in the expansion reservoir is between min. and max. level. Outside we have a sunny day, with max. 18 degC ambient temperature. However, even at these (apparently) high cooling system temperatures, the water expansion reservoir tap can be opened easily and the cooling water inside is not hot.Any suggestion what might be wrong? Thanks a lot! Oscar

Hi, your smart car has the same cooling system components as a regular gas powered car. The first thing to check with overheating is for a thermostat that has failed closed. Follow the hose from the bottom of the coolant reservoir to find the thermostat.
Please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r5929960-s_thermostat .These are generic instructions. If you get stuck or need specific instructions for your car, please get back to me with model, year and engine info. Thanks for using FixYa.
