after charging it continues to do the same thing! Problem. Turn on power button - viewfinder & Telephoto lens. Pop-up & advance..As It Should. But it Immediately. Retracts (lens) and viewfinder (closes down) .. At a loss what to do. Charging is fine. Green light is steady when complete after ovenight charge. Still the same results

Since there are tiny gears that drive the lens, any bit of dust, dirt, or lint can affect the initialization of the lens, and cause it to retract.
If you spray out the lens with compressed air, and try the other fixes, take it into a camera repair shop and get an estimate. Sometimes, it's cheaper to just buy a new one, since the cost of repair can be high.
