Each burner has a thing called a thermocouple. it's function is to keep the gas valve open for that burner. if for some reason the gas was to stop and restart it won't fill the house with gas. gas water heaters used them for years. anyway look for a little tube where the flame should be and replace it. take it out and take it with you. most any hardware store will have them. buy two and keep one for a spare.
