Air con compressor clutch does not engaged. 2005 trailblazer LS 6 cylinder. first there was a delay with the compressor clutch engaging, then it became intermittent, now it does not engage at all when the AC is turned on

Sounds like you have an issue with a leak. I would recommend having a evac and recharge with a leak test. the reason it was getting worse was you were slowly losing r134a refrigerant and the low pressure cutout switch cut the compressor off and now there isn't even enough for it to run safely. so the bcm is stopping it until there is enough pressure.
Renew it this is not difficult ,providing you have a air con re-gassing machine to extract the gas ,its an offence to just discharge this gas into the air
