Akai 37' My Lcd tv will run fine for only about 10-15 min, than the screen starts flickering and then becomes distorted. Than i'm left with a blue screen with lines through it until my screen turns completely black. Can someone plz help me, i know a tv repairman is needed but i dont want to pay up the Wazoo. ThankYou

Hi there it might b a little late with this as u posted this in may of 08 but my recent years of tv repair may help it could b the tuner in there older tv set had a similar problem with the tuner try opening tuner box it may need unsoldering but once in check all grounds for bad solder joints and resolder if needed the blue screen u see is normal when no signal input is found making it most likely the tuner.
hi again it may b of some help to know that i rewcently had a problem with my power supply i had 6 bad caps and that buzzing sound u mentioned sounds like the 2 large caps at the front of ur supply ie the power cord into board area r lettting the wrong power wavelength through ive seen it befors loud buzzing with color bars in screen power supply is good thought i got lucky with mine as it was just those six little caps power the power up and shut down ive heard the A/C wavelength through a set before and i was surprised to find it was the first large caps in the line where the power cord plug into board try it its cheap most parts can be found in a radio shack good luck. Would the tuner cause this problem even when using input from VGA or HDMI? I have tried using these two inputs as well as the tuner with the same results - the blue screen isn't actually the same type of blue screen displayed when there is no input, but has bands of color through it, accompanied by a very loud buzzing from the speakers. Very soon after, the screen goes completly black. The front panel power button stops working, and we have to use the power switch at the rear of the tv to completly kill power. After about 15 minutes, we can flip the power switch and use the front panel standby button to resume normal use for another 20 minutes or so before the cycle repeats.
I thought that maybe the power supply might have a bad capacitor? Maybe I could replace the supply? Found one online for $150, but don't want to spend good money after bad if it isn't the likely problem.

I fixed it - the power supply was bad. That explains the loud humming that accompanied the screen distortion - a cap was probably leaking, allowing some AC through. I didn't want to think about replacing any - the board is too crowded for my skill, so I put in a whole new supply. So far, everything is working OK, but I still wonder why the thing failed in the first place. Poor quality? It was plugged into a surge strip before, but I bought a new surge just to be certain a spike doesn't get through.
