Instead of going for the big deal, I'd start small. Look at the drives first. I'm in the process of rebuilding a Masterlink, and I got the "178" error after installing the new 30GB HDD because I left the jumper in the factory position ("Cable Select"). I repositioned the jumper to "Master" and no more error. The CD drive is currently out of the unit (being replaced) and that's creating a 277 error. I'm assuming once the replacement CD drive is installed (tonight) that will go away too. Replacement hard disks and cd-rw drives are cheap- . I'd try swapping them out and/or examining the jumpers and cables before assuming you need more expensive electronic repairs.... Good luck! I may need it too!
After reviewing the repair and owners manuals. I have come to the conclusion that there is a short in the power supply board. Your drives should be fine. I don't know off hand how expensive it is to fix in your area. I would say approx $200
Was wondering if you could please rate my answer. I would very greatly appreciate it. Hope all works out for you. If you need anything else just ask.
Please rate my solution. I would very greatly appreciate it.
Look for cold solder joints on the power supply.
