Alfa 156 sometimes stalls when I slow down
It idles fine at about 900rpm when stopped in neutral, but when I slow to turn or stop the idle blips from 500 to 1500rpm and sometimes stalls completely.

It's the air measuring tube that will be clogged probabily.
In the air intake, you'll find an air measuring valve ( older models ) or a hot wire system ( newer models ).
See if the valve can move smoothly, and/or if the measuring wire is totally clean! CAUTION, those parts are very fragile!
The idle regulation valve can also be faulty or clogged ( or its tubing ). This specially on older engines were some oil is consumed...
