amp that does not tune in any stations but otherwise works fine, would it do any harm to open them up, do some gentle cleaning and look for obvious problems (ie candle wax from previous tenants) and maybe get them functioning completely again?
Wont do any harm to open it up. look for blown fuses. i have a NAD amp and the desplay goes blank and sound distorts when there is a blown fuse inside, my amp has abourt 8 fuses inside it 4 per chanel
in response to karinapple's question. the bulbs should be available from maplins electronics or an equivalent store that sells electronic components. desolder the old bulbs and take one in store with you so they can find a match. rememeber they are 24v. also remember to solder the new bulbs the same way the old ones were so they're sort of laid on their side because if they're facing directly to the LCD display it will create 2 bright spots when switched on.in response to karinapple's question. the bulbs should be available from maplins electronics or an equivalent store that sells electronic components. desolder the old bulbs and take one in store with you so they can find a match. rememeber they are 24v. also remember to solder the new bulbs the same way the old ones were so they're sort of laid on their side because if they're facing directly to the LCD display it will create 2 bright spots when switched on.

The 2 bulbs inside the white display housing have blown.
these are small 12v bulbs.
Correction to the above:
These are actually 24v bulbs and not 12v.
