Antifreeze smell and loose antifreeze in the engine compartment, 2001 Nissan Altima
I have a 2001 Nissan Altima and it only has 96,000 miles. I smelled antifreeze and opened up the hood to see that there was a small bit of antifreeze or coolent around the radiator, upon further examination however, I noticed that the metal lip that circles around the radiator was covered in a slightly larger amount of antifreeze. The cap to the radiator was secured and there did not appear to be any other issues. Any help is appreciated.

Radiators with plastic tanks suffer from splitting/cracked tanks on the older cars. Any coolant outside the radiator is an indication of failure and the radiator should be replaced with a new unit as repair costs almost as much as a new one. There is no need for genuine as the radiator manufacturers make genuine and non genuine to the same specs for around half the price. Any accredited radiator shop will have a unit for you.
