Approximately half an hour into trip my Tomtom one loses the map just when I need it most and I have to navigate by voice instructions only
Approximately 30mins into journey, Tomtom one map flashes on and off, screen reverts to home page or view route page. By touching cancel, or done, the map comes back but only briefly. I have to navigate by voice instructions only.

The life of the battery in most GPS tend to deteriorate faster due to extended period of exposure to extreme sunlight.
Most GPS need an external power source. Hence check the cigarette lighter connection if you have one.
Make sure there is enough power. When the power gets low, it tends to conserve by limiting items that draw the most power.
Check if there is an option that allows the map screen to display longer.
