ARCHOS Bluescreen of death
My Archos has been acting up for a week, but it only started this sunday night: When I turn it on it displays a blue screen and a black box that says
'"File system is not FAT32
Device will reboot"
There's an OK box. clicking the okay box restarts it back to the same screen. So does manually turning it on/off. I tried plugging it into the comp, but it says 'hardware malfunction'. I don't know what to do but I really want to get my data off this. I have two papers and three stories on here. The music and stuff is good and all, but I really need those files.

I have this same problem. I am able to get to a point where I can access my files on my computer. To do this, I connected my player to my computer. Then, I did a system recovery. To do this, turn the player on and press and hold the TV/LCD button immediately after the green light turns on until the screen turns white. This doesn't always work on the first try. If you let it go to the blue screen and then reboot it again, press and hold the TV/LCD button when the Archos logo comes on the screen. That seems to work for me. Pick the system recovery option. When I do this, the player says "connect your device to your PC and install an update file." At this time the computer recognizes the device and I can get to my files. That is as far as I can get right now. When I try to install an update file, I end up getting the message "update failed (code 207). And I have to restart the process all over again. I hope this makes sense. I'll let you know if I ever can get any further with this.
An update to what I posted earlier today. Was going through the process I mentioned above to access my files. I was planning on formatting the hard drive, which would have deleted all my files, and I wanted to copy some of the files on the player onto my computer. While doing this the player froze, so I had to manually restart it by holding the power button. When it restarted, I forgot to push and hold the TV/LCD button, and the player ended up starting like normal. It opened to the normal home screen and now works better than ever. I have absolutely no idea why it works now. Crazy technology.
According to the error mess, it sound like you have formatted the device in NTFS in stead of fat 32. I believe the device needs to be in fat32 to allow the device to operate.i.e. when using the tv docking st, you will find that you will not be able to play data from it to tv unless its in fat32.
I have a media centre , which I mistakingly formatted to NTFS not knowing until connecting centre to tv it wouldnt play movies. Found out it was because it need to be in a FAT 32 file system. I ghope that answers your question.
