Backs up spins in circles, then red light flashes and beeps
My roomba moves away from the docking station a few inches, spins in circles for a minute or so, then the red light beeps and flashes and the vacuum shuts off.

Hi, Your Roomba is experiencing the 9-beep error. This is caused by a bad component in your bump sensor. It pretty much is constantly sending a bump signal to your Roomba, which is why your Roomba keeps going backwards and circling(and never goes forward). Anyways, I had the same issue and fixed it by buying a repair kit from here.
Sounds like either the battery is bad or not being charged properly with subsequent loss of programming.
